Synthetic Turf Infill
Synthetic turf is ballasted with sand. It has to be dry, clean and sized so it flows through the fibres and stays put.
Why sand is used
A synthetic turf system is a carpet of fibres on a backing. On its own it moves, creases and the fibres flatten. Infill sand is brushed into the pile to hold the carpet down, keep the fibres upright, and give the surface weight and firmness underfoot. On sports and play surfaces it also contributes to how the surface feels and drains.
What matters in the sand
Infill has to flow. It is spread by a drop spreader and brushed in, so it must be dry — moist sand clumps, bridges over the fibres and never reaches the backing. It has to be clean: silt and clay turn to mud in the pile, hold water and stain. And it has to be sized: a fraction coarse enough not to blow or wash out, fine enough to work down between the fibres. The exact fraction depends on the turf product; installers and manufacturers specify it.
The MRP product
Kiln-Dried Sand is produced for exactly this. Washed quartz sand is dried in our kiln and screened into a close fraction between 0.3 mm and 6 mm, so it arrives dry, free of fines and at the size the installer asks for. The dryness is not incidental: it is what lets the sand be screened accurately and what lets it spread evenly on the day.
