Paving & Jointing Sand
Paving uses two sands doing two different jobs: a bedding layer the pavers sit on, and a dry jointing sand that locks them together.
Two sands, two jobs
Pavers are laid on a screeded bed of sand over a compacted base. The bed takes up small variations, lets the pavers be tapped level, and drains. Once laid, jointing sand is swept into the gaps and vibrated down. It locks the pavers against each other so they do not rock or creep, and it stops weeds and water getting under the surface.
What matters in each
The bedding sand needs a consistent grading so it screeds evenly and compacts under the pavers without holding water — a washed sand with the silt and clay removed. The jointing sand needs to flow into a narrow joint, which is only possible if it is dry and closely sized: a fine, dry fraction runs into a 3 mm gap; a moist or dusty sand sits on top and bridges.
The MRP products
For jointing, Kiln-Dried Sand — washed, dried in our kiln and screened to a fine, close fraction — flows freely into joints and can be sized to suit the paver gap. For bedding, Washed Sand screened to a consistent grade. Both come from the same quartz deposit at Talgai and are processed on site.
