Playground & Sandpit Sand
Sand that children play in has to be clean, free of fines and dust, and drain after rain. That is a washed, screened sand.
What matters in play sand
The first requirement is cleanliness: no silt, clay, organic material or rubbish, so the sand does not cake, stain or go muddy. The second is drainage — a sandpit that holds water after rain is unusable and unhygienic. The third is grain size: fine enough to be pleasant to play in and to mould when damp, coarse enough not to blow away or cling. Playground surfacing and sandpit sand are typically specified by the council, school or childcare operator, and the specification should be followed.
Washed or kiln-dried
Washed Sand — processed through our wash plant to remove silt and clay and screened to grade — is supplied for sandpits, playgrounds and soft-fall areas in bulk. Where a dry, bagged play sand is being produced, or a tighter fraction is specified, Kiln-Dried Sand is washed, dried and screened to it.
The MRP products
Both come from the one quartz deposit at Talgai and are processed on site, so a sandpit topped up next year gets the same sand it was filled with. Quartz sand is inert and does not break down in use.
