What is the difference between select fill and general fill?

Select fill is chosen and screened to meet a specification for grading and compaction behaviour so it can be placed as controlled fill and tested. General fill is unspecified material used where no engineering performance is required.

For structural applications, yes. It is placed in layers and compacted to a density set by the project engineer, and verified by field density testing. Earthworks are commonly carried out with reference to AS 3798.

How much select fill do I need for a house pad?

Volume is the area of the pad multiplied by the depth of fill, with an allowance for compaction. The required depth and layer thickness are set by the engineer. Contact us with the dimensions and we can advise on tonnage.

Yes. It is a granular material and does not retain water in the way clay fill does, which reduces the risk of loss of strength when wet.
