MRP sand and fill for power infrastructure
Underground high- and medium-voltage cables depend on the material packed around them. MRP supplies thermal bedding sand for cable trenches, substations and transmission and distribution networks, and select fill for substation platforms, hardstands and access roads. All from our own quarry at Talgai, Queensland.
What utilities and electrical contractors need from us
A cable carrying current makes heat. If the backfill cannot carry it away, the cable has to be derated or fails early. The specification sets a maximum thermal resistivity, often at both placed moisture and fully dry. The backfill has to meet it on every trench. Platforms and hardstands need a fill that compacts to specification with standard plant.
How we make it
Our thermal bedding sand is screened and graded, not washed. Washing would strip the fines that let it compact, and voids are air. Kept in, they let the sand pack tightly around the cable. Select fill is screened to a uniform material. Both are processed on site from one deposit, so what was tested is what keeps arriving.
Ordering and delivery
Bulk supply by road, scheduled to the trenching program. We deliver throughout Queensland; South East Queensland is the regular run. If the project needs a measured thermal resistivity or test certificates, say so when you enquire and we will handle it for that supply.
