MRP traction sand for rail
Locomotives drop sand on the rail ahead of the wheel to restore grip under traction and braking. MRP supplies kiln-dried sand screened to the operator's sanding specification and delivered dry, in bulk. Made on site at our own quarry at Talgai, Queensland.
What rail operators need from us
The sand has to flow from the hopper through pipes and nozzles every time. Moisture makes it bridge and block, and a blocked sander is a locomotive with no grip when it needs it most. So it must be dry, sized to feed reliably and crush under the wheel, and clean so nothing cakes in the hopper.
How we make it
Washing removes the silt and clay that would cake. Drying in our kiln brings it to a free-flowing state and lets it be screened accurately. It is screened to the operator's fraction, between 0.3 mm and 6 mm. Hard quartz grains, dry, at the size the sander is set up for.
