MRP quartz sand for foundries
A foundry mould is sand held together with a binder. The sand decides the finish and soundness of the casting. MRP supplies kiln-dried quartz sand washed, dried and screened to the foundry's grading, for moulding and core sand systems. Made on site at our own quarry at Talgai, Queensland.
What foundries need from us
Dry, because most binder systems react to water. Clean, so silt, clay and organic matter do not interfere with the binder or gas off in the mould. Graded to the foundry's specification, because grain size sets the surface finish and how gas escapes. And consistent: a foundry tunes its process around its sand, and a change in the sand changes the castings.
How we make it
Quartz sand is washed to remove silt and clay, dried in our kiln and screened to a close fraction between 0.3 mm and 6 mm. Because it is quarried, washed, dried and screened on one site from one deposit, the sand the foundry qualifies is the sand it keeps getting.
